Competitors must complete a full-head retwist and finished style within 60 minutes, demonstrating control, clean parting, and artistic presentation. Winning competitors advance to Loc Dominion at Nationals.

Competition Format
Everything you need to know about how the Loc Restyle & Twist Challenge is structured and what is required on competition day. Winning competitors advance to Loc Dominion at Nationals.
60 Minutes Total
Full Retwist & Style
Competitors have 60 minutes to complete a full-head retwist and finished style. Work must begin from a full retwist — the style must be built from the retwist and completed within the allotted time. This category highlights both technical foundation and creative expression in loc styling.

Model Eligibility
Competitor-Supplied Model
Models must have a full head of natural locs at minimum shoulder length, traditional loc size (approx. 50–60 locs). Hair must be freshly washed and product-free. Sides and back may not exceed 1.5–2 inches before the ear/tapeline. Clean scalp required — no dandruff or buildup.

Tools & Accessories
What's Allowed
Approved tools include clips, combs, and dryers. Accessories such as pins, wraps, beads, and bands are permitted for integration. Hair jewels and adornment are allowed — no added hair. All styling must be built from the retwist using only approved products.

Style Freedom
Creative Expression
Competitors may create buns, twists, updos, and creative designs. Restrictions: no added hair, no pre-work of any kind, no outside products. The style must be built entirely from the retwist.

This division requires the use of PureO Natural Products ONLY — provided to all competitors on site at check-in. This ensures fair and consistent conditions for all participants. No outside or alternative products are permitted.

How You Will Be Judged
This division is judged on technical execution, completion, design, consistency, and professionalism. There is no separate compliance section for braid & loc categories — professional standards still apply and violations result in –3 point deductions.

Winner is determined by highest average score across all judges. Each judge scores independently. All judging decisions are final.

Know Before You Compete
Key Competition Rules
All competitors are responsible for understanding and following the rules of their category. Violations may result in point deductions or disqualification.
No Pre-Twisting Permitted
No pre-twisting, pre-styling, or pre-shaping of any kind before the competition begins. All work in each round must start from the condition established at the beginning of that round.
Models Must Meet Requirements
Models must arrive with locs in the natural, unaltered condition required for the retwist category. Competitors are responsible for their model's preparation.
Required Products Only
Use only the designated Loc & Twist products provided by PureO Natural Products and Locn Hair Products. Products are distributed at check-in. No substitutions permitted.
Stop When Time is Called
Competitors must immediately stop all work the moment each round's time is called. Continuing after time is penalized.
Style Built From Retwist
The finished style must be built entirely from the full-head retwist completed during the competition. Styles not originating from the retwist are grounds for disqualification.
Professional Conduct Required
Professional attitude and model handling are required throughout. Excessive tension, rough handling, or disruptive conduct results in deductions.
